Michael Huber
& James Rhodes formed the Rhodeside Band in 1990. Their music was a
blend of Rock, Blues and what they liked to call Floribbean jazz. Their
long term success, opening for national and international acts, was just
one step to bringing fun and excitement of playing music to a wider audience. |
Instrumentation:
Mike Huber
on Flute / Harp / Guitar / Percussion with Lead and Backup Vocals, with
James Rhodes playing
Acoustic Guitar
and handling most of the lead vocals. Most of Rhodeside's club dates featured
Mike and Jim as a duo with sequenced drums and bass.
Mike Huber:
A talented flutist who excels at both subtle interludes and soaring passages. Mike's harp playing became another focus of Rhodeside's unique sound. He also plays electric guitar with a style showing his hard rock roots.
Jim Rhodes:
Known as an innovative acoustic guitarist. His inside-out soloing and finger picking technique blend perfectly in an ensemble that was stacked so that each instrument had its own voice and space.
Rhodeside:
Rhodeside had
the opportunity to play with many fine musicians over the years.
Performing as a trio and as a five piece band,
these players include: Vince Forest, Cliff Hughes, Mike Godwin, Peter Kane and
others.
"Playing Through":
Rhodeside's 3rd CD, was produced and engineered by Dan Smith at Bay Sound Studio in Tampa, Florida. It was mastered at Fullersound in Miami, FL by Mike Fuller.

Live

distinctive picking and harmonic sleights of hand on the radio and TV, or you’ve heard them perform at the Raymond James stadium. If this is true, you’re probably most familiar with their song "Pewter Pirates," a musical novelty with a big hook (no pun intended). This song can occasionally be heard on the TV news when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the focus. Rhodeside Live has a fantastic live sound, with full-bodied vocals and flute solos that will astonish any musician. On an Eagles cover, "Hotel California," Mike Huber successfully plays guitar solo’s with a rich, melodious flute that screams Huber’s talent. Just when you think that they sound like someone you’ve heard before, the members of Rhodeside surprise you with a unique blend of stylistic orchestrations. Before hearing Rhodeside Live, I had visions of an album plump filled with Buccaneer-cheering anthems and that became somewhat uncomfortable to swallow. Needless to say, this album exceeded expectations by delivering well-rounded originals along with a few nicely chosen covers. Ending the twelve song album with "Pewter Pirates" gives the set a chic-novelty-closer for a Jethro Tull meets The Eagles band. -by Scott Diamond |
